Sir John Hurt was patron of Cinema City and Cinema City Education from 2013 until his passing in 2017.

We were all incredibly saddened to hear of the passing of our friend and patron Sir John Hurt. Sir John was a legend of British cinema and his roles were diverse and many. We feel honoured to have known and worked with him, the John Hurt Centre will continue Sir John’s legacy by making film and cinema in it’s physical and theoretical forms an art form to be enjoyed by all.

Welcoming the appointment in 2013 of John Hurt, Roy Townsend, Chair of Cinema City Ltd said: ‘The Trust is delighted that John is to help Cinema City celebrate its 35th birthday. Having moved to Norfolk, he has shown a terrific interest in education and the arts in the area and it is great that someone still so busy in both films and the theatre can find the time and energy to give something back in this way.’

“I am delighted to be the Patron of Cinema City, most especially because of its highly successful education programme, Cinema City Education. We need to encourage the next generation of filmmakers and film audiences and we need to educate that generation to support the film culture so that British film remains amongst the best in the world.” – John Hurt Patron, April 2013
